”Poems” is a collection of three timeless pieces by three adored poets from three different centuries. The work of Dylan Thomas, Queen Elizabeth I and Edgar Allan Poe spoke to me and these three poems became my favorites. By putting music to them, it felt like a timeless connection between the writers and me. The poems, about the death of a father; about not finding a place of belonging in the world; and about ill-fated love, all remain topical today, 65, 200 and 400 years later.

Also included are two of my own songs. “Spiders”, about the monsters in our minds and “The Fault In Our Stars” inspired by John Green’s book with the same name.

I hope you will enjoy the songs as much as I enjoyed making them!

    Love,
    Hildur Höglind

I grieve and dare not show my discontent, I love and yet am forced to seem to hate, I do, yet dare not say I ever meant, I seem stark mute but inwardly do prate. I am and not, I freeze and yet am burned, Since from myself another self I turned. My care is like my shadow in the sun, Follows me flying, flies when I pursue it, Stands and lies by me, doth what I have done. His too familiar care doth make me rue it. No means I find to rid him from my breast, Till by the end of things it be suppress. No means I find to rid him from my breast, Till by the end of things it be supprest. Some gentler passion slide into my mind, For I am soft and made of melting snow; Or be more cruel, love, and so be kind. Let me or float or sink, be high or low. Or let me live with some more sweet content, Or die and so forget what love ere meant. Or let me live with some more sweet content, Or die and so forget what love ere meant.

Do not go gentle into that good night, Old age should burn and rave at close of day; Rage, rage against the dying of the light. Though wise men at their end know dark is right, Because their words had forked no lightning they Do not go gentle into that good night. Good men, the last wave by, crying how bright Their frail deeds might have danced in a green bay, Rage, rage against the dying of the light. Wild men who caught and sang the sun in flight, And learn, too late, they grieved it on its way, Do not go gentle into that good night. Grave men, near death, who see with blinding sight Blind eyes could blaze like meteors and be gay, Rage, rage against the dying of the light. Rage.. And you, my father, there on the sad height, Curse, bless, me now with your fierce tears, I pray. Do not go gentle into that good night. Rage, rage against the dying of the light. Do not go gentle into that good night. Rage, rage against the dying of the light. Do not go gentle into that good night. Rage, rage against the dying of the light.

Spiders 05:15
There are spiders on the walls, love I can see them, clear as day There are tigers on the floor, love Can’t you make them go away? There are horrors going on Under my bed I’ve got monsters in my head Can’t you see, can’t you see, can’t you see, can’t you see, can’t you hear them? Don’t you feel, don’t you feel, don’t you feel, don’t you feel, don’t you fear them? There’s a killer on the run, love I have seen it on the news He’s coming with a gun, love I could swear it, but not prove There are horrors going on Under my bed I’ve got monsters in my head Can’t you see, can’t you see, can’t you see, can’t you see, can’t you hear them? Don’t you feel, don’t you feel, don’t you feel, don’t you feel, don’t you fear them? Aaaaaaaaaah Aaaaaaaaaah Aaaaaaaaaah Aaaaaaaaaah Aaaaaaaaaah There are horrors going on Under my bed There are horrors going on inside my head There are monsters like I said Can’t you see, can’t you see, can’t you see, can’t you see, can’t you hear them? Don’t you feel, don’t you feel, don’t you feel, don’t you feel, don’t you fear them? Can’t you see, can’t you see, can’t you see, can’t you see, can’t you hear them? Don’t you feel, don’t you feel, don’t you feel, don’t you feel, don’t you fear them? There are horrors going on Under my bed There are horrors going on inside my head There are monsters like I said Haaaa Haaaa Haaaa

From childhood’s hour I have not been As others were I have not seen As others saw I could not bring My passions from a common spring From the same source I have not taken My sorrow I could not awaken My heart to joy at the same tone And all I lov’d I lov’d alone Then in my childhood in the dawn Of a most stormy life was drawn From ev’ry depth of good and ill The mystery which binds me still From the torrent, or the fountain From the red cliff of the mountain From the sun that ’round me roll’d In its autumn tint of gold From the lightning in the sky As it pass’d me flying by From the thunder, and the storm And the cloud that took the form Then, in my childhood, in the dawn Of a most stormy life was drawn From ev’ry depth of good and ill The mystery which binds me still Labada Labada Labada When the rest of Heaven was blue Of a demon in my view

Ahhhhhh Ahhhhhh Ahhhhhh A breathing machine attached to her nose I never understood the universe She is more clever and witty than she knows And a fighter, I can tell says the nurse But she only makes matters much worse Maybe this is not the fault of a God? And maybe Karma’s innocent too? Maybe we’re all just locked behind bars? Or could it be the fault’s in the stars? Maybe it’s the fault in our stars I stagger through hallways, but don’t know where to I never understood the universe Her nails are painted perfect in dark navy blue The nine was a ten says the nurse but that only makes it all worse Maybe this is not the fault of a God? And maybe Karma’s innocent too? Maybe we’re all just locked behind bars? Or could it be the fault’s in the stars? Maybe it’s the fault in our stars Are you okay? Are you okay? Are you okay? Maybe this is not the fault of a God? And maybe Karma’s innocent too? Maybe we’re all just locked behind bars? Or could it be the fault’s in the stars? Maybe it’s the fault in our stars Ahhhhhh Ahhhhhh Ahhhhhh Are you okay? Are you okay? Are you okay? Maybe it’s the fault in our stars
